Current research projects
I am involved in or collaborating or working with postgraduate thesis students in a number and range of funded projects across the following strands which hold our interest as ways to improve human health through lifestyle:
Workplaces: The use of this medium as a setting in both NZ and low- and middle-income countries (Pacific Islands), including weight loss programmes, workplace challenges of various types, return on investment (ROI) through intervention, including absenteeism.
Primary care: Primary care as an effective setting to promote health and interact with the community.
Urban design: How neighbourhood design is related to physical activity and sedentary behaviour.
Sedentary behaviour: Interested in how extended sitting affects health and novel interventions on how to break sitting time in all ages.
Children and youth: Interests include reducing sedentariness, improving cognition, novel interventions to increase physical activity especially using schools as a setting. Interested in developing more research around children’s independent mobility (free range children).
