Dr Erica Hinckson

Background
Dr Erica Hinckson is the Associate Director in the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research, AUT University. Her program of research focuses on children’s physical activity and health, built environment and transport and specialises in physical activity programme implementation and evaluation. Erica’s background in Exercise Physiology ensures a fundamental understanding of the principles involved. She graduated with a PhD in March 2005, and since then has accumulated 10 peer-review publications, 13 peer-reviewed abstracts, 12 abstracts in conference proceedings, 25 presentations, and 4 scientific reports, in these and related areas.
In the last four years Erica has been successful in obtaining approximately $2.1million in competitive research funding individually and as part of a larger team. Erica has been involved as the Institution representative for the SPARC Cross sector reference group for the development of National Research and Innovation Strategy, delivers Physical Activity and Health Promotion courses at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels and leads the post-graduate programme. Erica has presented her research at eight international and six national conferences. She peer reviews articles in Health & Place, Research International Sports Medicine, Youth Studies Australia and Physical Therapy in Sport journals.
