Graduate Diploma & Graduate Certificate in Applied Science

The AUT Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Applied Science qualifications offer current industry practitioners the opportunity to up-skill or change direction within their science careers. 

The graduate diploma and certificate also prepare students for postgraduate study in a science discipline in which they were not originally trained.

Entry requirements

The normal educational requirements for admission are one of the following: a three year relevant qualification from a New Zealand tertiary institution or equivalent; or relevant professional experience equivalent to a three year qualification.

English language requirements

Applicants for whom English or Māori is not their first language are required to provide proof of an acceptable pass/grade gained in an accepted English language test. For more details, please refer to English Language Requirements in AUT's Academic Calendar.


What these qualifications cover

Students can update their knowledge within these scientific disciplines: Applied Mathematics, Aquaculture, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Food Science, Health Protection, Anaesthetic Technology and Microbiology.

 For the diploma students must complete:

  • 120 points, 75 points of which must be at level seven and the remainder at level six or seven. Papers can be chosen from the Bachelor of Applied Science or the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science. Students who are medical laboratory technicians seeking to upgrade their qualifications must discuss their programme of study with their employer.
