Measurement of Colour
Perception of colour and colour-difference. Colour matching is an important part of many manufacturing industries. Modern instrumentation allows colour to be measured accurately, however to relate these measurements to manufacturing tolerances relies on a clear understanding of the customer’s ability to see differences in colour.
Measurement of colours of ceramic glazes. Minor changes in glaze formulations and firing can give significant changes to the colours of the final glaze. This work is developing techniques to measure the colours of glazes and investigate the effect formulation changes and glaze temperatures have on the final colour.
Nanotechnology
Investigation of the use of nanoparticles for catalectic purposes is a developing field in the chemical industry. The development of techniques to produce these particles using precipitation techniques is proving an exciting field of inorganic chemistry.
Flavours in Wine
In collaboration with Professor Owen Young, we are investigating the fate of various wine flavour compounds to determine how these develop in various wines.
