Denise Nardan says her postgraduate research at AUT was the most stimulating period of her life to date.
Her time with AUT began when she left Fiji to study a Bachelor of Applied Science in chemistry with the help of a scholarship. It wasn’t long after finishing this, she was back for more.
“After a year working in a lab, I missed the academic environment. I applied for a masters at AUT, and haven’t looked back,” says Denise.
Denise started a Master of Applied Science but this was soon upgraded to a PhD. Her PhD was based on the development of a novel method for glycoconjugate modification and was funded by a government scholarship.
“My supervisor and fellow researchers were supportive and we shared the same challenges. I also had the rare opportunity to work with international researchers. The postgraduate workshops offered by AUT were also extremely helpful.”
Denise now works as a senior analyst with Watercare and is involved in method development.
“I find this a challenging and enjoyable job with a promising future. However I wouldn’t say this is the end of my study.”
