“Discovering my passion for the law was the easy part; the hard part was convincing myself to spend another 4 years at university in order to get a law degree. Looking back now though, it was the best decision I could have made.
“The comradeship and support of my fellow students and the high calibre of staff at AUT has got me here. I appreciate being able to study with students who have diverse work and life experiences. The small class sizes have allowed me to get an interactive learning experience.
“The curriculum is well balanced and there is a requirement that students start learning practical legal skills that employers want to see in graduates. “Studying law for the past 2 years at AUT has offered me so much more than I could have hoped for and has made me excited about my future and what it has to offer.
“Lecturers at AUT are interested in your individual success. Because of this, I was privileged in my first year of university to gain a summer research position at a law firm where I co-published an article in the New Zealand Law Journal. AUT also provided me with opportunities such as a research/administrative position in the business and law faculty and the chance to attend a law conference in Christchurch.
“What I have experienced at AUT is a friendly, positive learning environment where both lecturers and students support one another and are willing to go the extra mile to help you succeed. We have small interactive workshops to encourage classroom discussions, building key analytical and problem-solving skills as well as confidence.
