“Studying law at AUT has fuelled my passion for the subject and I am excited about the emerging opportunities in the field. I enjoy AUT’s vibrant student life and the smaller classes, excellent resources and outstanding lecturers; all of whom are always willing to go the extra mile.
The small classroom teaching has enabled an interactive and challenging learning experience which I have found very rewarding. The in-class debates have pushed me to examine issues from all angles, and to think outside the box, encouraging a higher level of thinking. Being taught to excel in problem solving, to develop strong analytical and communication skills means AUT’s law graduates will be in high demand.
When I graduate I know I will be able to make a powerful and positive difference, and I am confident that the AUT Law degree will equip me for an exciting and dynamic legal career that I can be proud of.”

“The teaching environment is inclusive and supportive, with excellent interaction between lecturers and students. The focus is on problem-solving, debating and examining emerging issues, so we look at things from different viewpoints, developing strong analytical and communication skills.
“The practical teaching style and use of technology shows that the law school is preparing its students for a changing legal and business environment. Based on my experience here, I think AUT law graduates will be prepared for a great future in whatever legal or business career they pursue.”

Jess enrolled in AUT’s law degree with several years’ work in employment law, and commerce and art degrees.
“Discovering my passion for the law was the easy part; the hard part was convincing myself to spend another 4 years at university in order to get a law degree. Looking back now though, it was the best decision I could have made.
“The comradeship and support of my fellow students and the high calibre of staff at AUT has got me here. I appreciate being able to study with students who have diverse work and life experiences. The small class sizes have allowed me to get an interactive learning experience.
“The curriculum is well balanced and there is a requirement that students start learning practical legal skills that employers want to see in graduates. I am confident that, as the first graduates from NZ’s newest law school, we will demonstrate to employers that AUT graduates strive for academic excellence but also have the practical skills to hit the ground running.”

“Studying law for the past 2 years at AUT has offered me so much more than I could have hoped for and has made me excited about my future and what it has to offer.
“Lecturers at AUT are interested in your individual success. Because of this, I was privileged in my first year of university to gain a summer research position at a law firm where I co-published an article in the New Zealand Law Journal. AUT also provided me with opportunities such as a research/administrative position in the business and law faculty and the chance to attend a law conference in Christchurch.
“What I have experienced at AUT is a friendly, positive learning environment where both lecturers and students support one another and are willing to go the extra mile to help you succeed. We have small interactive workshops to encourage classroom discussions, building key analytical and problem-solving skills as well as confidence.
“Out-of-class study groups are also common among the law students, who enjoy sharing ideas and helping each other get ahead. AUT has already opened up so many doors in my life, and I’m confident it will continue to do so after my degree.”
