Biography:
Professor Chris Ohms' teaching, research and consulting activities are concentrated on national and international taxation law and policy. His particular speciality is the formation and treatment of anti-avoidance provisions, the topic of his Doctoral thesis, and the main examiner for which was the former President of the New Zealand Court of Appeal and New Zealand’s foremost tax jurist, the Right Honourable Sir Ivor Richardson.
He is the lead author of the 2004 Brookers treatise Taxation in New Zealand the first such comprehensive work published since Dr AP Molloy QC published Molloy on Income Tax in 1976.
Professor Ohms has written numerous articles and commentaries on anti-avoidance law and policy in peer reviewed and refereed journals such as the New Zealand Journal of Taxation Law and Policy. On several occasions he has written and presented submissions to Parliamentary Select Committees on the implications of draft taxation legislation. He also has an extensive consulting background both in the public and private sector.
