The AUT Law School welcomes applications for direct entry to the second year of the law degree from students who have successfully completed the first year of a law degree at other New Zealand law schools.

ENTRY CRITERIA

Limited places are available and all applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. To be considered, you will need to have met the following criteria:

Obtained a B average or higher in the first year law papers at your originating institution.
Successfully completed (passed) all your first year papers.

CROSS CREDITS

You will normally receive cross credits for the following papers:

Legal System (415101) - 15 points
Legal Reasoning and Writing (415102) - 30 points
Plus 60 points of non-law papers in the first year of the AUT law degree

You may still need to complete the following paper:

Law and the Constitution (415103) - 15 points

The Law and the Constitution paper is taught in semester 2 of the first year at AUT and constitutes part of the New Zealand Council of Legal Education’s Public Law requirements. If you need to complete this paper, you would normally take it in year 2 instead of the compulsory Intellectual Property Law (416206) paper.

You would then take the Intellectual Property Law paper in year 3 in place of one of the law elective papers.

HOW TO APPLY

Write a covering letter setting out why you are applying to do the AUT LLB
Provide an official transcript of your first year results

Note: Offers will be made after your first year results are available.
