Bachelor of Arts - International Studies

Intstudies3Are you interested in working overseas or in an international setting? Are you intrigued by other cultures customs and traditions?

If you understand what makes other cultures tick you will be able to make a faster and more effective contribution to any workplace. That's a valuable credential to offer any employer.

One of the key learning objectives in the new major in International Studies is Intercultural Competence, an emerging field of study that is rapidly gaining recognition and importance. Intercultural Competence includes invaluable knowledge or skills, transferable to any country or to any culture. An understanding of global issues alongside the more traditional fields such as international relations, sociology, economics, culture and society, business, and a second or additional language are other features of the International Studies major.

And if you are into avatars, wikis and blogs then you will enjoy the way this course is offered: all the latest web 2.0 and 3D environments including multi-user virtual environments such as Second Life.

Your learning at AUT takes you out of the traditional lecture room environment. You can experience overseas study with the possibility of exchanges in Japan, China and Hong Kong, or a country in the Pacific or South America. You will also take up a work placement in a multicultural or international setting in New Zealand or possibly overseas.

The International Studies major at AUT is the first to be offered at any New Zealand university and commences Semester One, 2010.
