Conflict Resolution

By studying Conflict Resolution students will discover integrated, holistic approaches to solving conflict. This degree focuses on three societal levels: the global, the local and the personal. Lectures and tutorials draw from international experiences and include best practice models from Australia, Europe and North America.

WHAT THIS MAJOR COVERS

The content for this major is drawn from psychology and political studies. There are also sociological, multicultural and multidisciplinary threads running throughout the papers. The goal of the Conflict Resolution major is to:

  • Identify causes of conflict (systemic, structural, inter-personal).
  • Provide understanding of different approaches to conflict resolution.
  • Provide practical skills of conflict negotiation, mediation and facilitation.
  • Draw upon multi-disciplinary perspectives in analysing and researching conflict and conflict resolution.
  • Draw upon multi-cultural perspectives in dealing with conflict, using examples such as the Treaty of Waitangi.
