ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants are expected to have native speaker proficiency both oral and written in their first language, as well as being proficient in English
- Non-native speakers of English need to have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 7 or higher in reading and writing
- A short writing test (sent by email) will be given
- Enrolment interviews will be conducted by phone in November
WHAT THIS QUALIFICATION COVERS
The course consists of two papers and each is twelve weeks long, with a two week break. The online weekly modules will require three hours of work, plus minimum practice time of about four hours and some reading for theory.
Students will be expected to contribute to an online blog, and share and critique another student's work in the same language as yours.
The course includes:
- reflection and awareness of translation problems
- theoretical models of the translation process and linguistic notions in translation
- ethics of the profession
- translation genres (technical, legal, medical, literary)
- translation criticism
- the business of translation and the translator's practice
- the methodology of translation
- various aspects of cross-cultural translation problems, including approaches to the translation of culture specific items
This certificate is embedded in the Diploma Interpreting and Translation, and is an exit qualification.
