SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2012

There are still a few Adult Literacy Educator Grants available for 2012 applicants. These grants, funded by the Tertiary Education Commission, provide partial fee scholarships for educators studying for qualifications in teaching adult literacy and numeracy. They allow for part time study over a maximum of 3 years, and cover approximately 60% of current tuition fees.The amount awarded this year is $4000. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This programme aims to equip adult literacy and numeracy educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to address the diverse challenges of provision and practice in New Zealand in the 21st century.

WHAT THIS PROGRAMME COVERS

MAdLitNumEd graduates will have advanced knowledge and training in adult literacy and numeracy teaching that integrates current theory and practice in the various literacy and numeracy domains. They will be able to design and implement literacy and numeracy programmes to meet the needs of specific cohorts of learners; critique and/or develop the materials required in the presentation of such programmes; develop targeted assessments and evaluation for adult literacy and numeracy learners and critically evaluate and apply methodologies appropriate to particular levels of adult literacy and numeracy learners.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Employment prospects include teaching literacy and numeracy and training of literacy and numeracy practitioners. Graduates may also find employment as policy analysts and curriculum developers in the area of adult literacy and numeracy education.
