NZ Sign Language and Deaf Culture

Come and learn New Zealand's newest official language and about the culture of Deaf people. Our paper will open your eyes and mind to the language of the Deaf Community of New Zealand.

The following papers can be taken as an elective for an existing students, or as a an introduction for those interested in deaf culture and sign language.

New Zealand Sign Language and Deaf Culture 1A

  • No previous knowledge of NZ Sign Language is necessary
  • You will be able to have a simple conversation in sign language
  • You will learn about Deaf Culture and have an understanding of the characteristics of Deaf identity.

Extend your signing ability

  • NZ Sign Language and Deaf Studies 1A is a prerequisite or equivalent is required
  • You will further develop skills for effective communication in sign language
  • You will continue to learn about Deaf Culture and Deaf identity.
