Biography:

Clare comes to her current positions after leading programmes at AUT University in Language Teacher Education at Graduate Diploma and Certificate levels.  She has had experience teaching languages in France, Finland and New Zealand.

At AUT her teaching experience includes papers on the Masters and Graduate Diploma and undergraduate papers on the BA English and New Media Studies, as well as Academic Literacies, English for Business Studies and general English language at all levels.

Her contributions to the community include writing and editing for Password Magazine, a magazine for new speakers of English, and a position as Auckland Team leader for University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Clare is Programme Coordinator, Master of Professional Language Studies in Language Teaching and Co-Programme Coordinator, Master of Arts Applied Language Studies.

Research Summary:

Clare's research interests are in the area of language teacher education and include teachers perceptions of learning and transfer of learning. 

Current Research Projects:

Clare is a recipient, along with her colleague Heather Richards, of a 2013 AUT Faculty of Culture and Society Contestable Research Grant to research Intercultural Communicative Language Teaching (iCLT) in New Zealand schools.

The research examines language teachers' understanding and implementation of iCLT principles in Years 7-13 classes for learning additional languages (Chinese, French, German, Samoan and Spanish).

The project aims to disseminate findings and recommendations for informing the future development of iCLT in New Zealand schools.
