About the Centre for Creative Writing

Since its inception in 2008 the Centre for Creative Writing has developed a reputation for fostering excellence in prose narrative and has hosted some of Auckland’s most prominent writers and tertiary-based creative writing teachers.

As with similar programmes worldwide, we recognise that any category of writing — not just 'high literature' but biography, travel writing, children's stories, narrative journalism, even academic writing – can be creative.

We encourage excellence in traditional literary genres but also in the full range of contemporary popular genres.

2014 sees the introduction of a specialty creative writing programme — The Master of Creative Writing for Screenwriters — which is run by script and industry mentor Andrew Bancroft.
