WHAT THIS PROGRAMME COVERS
Students complete four core papers, plus a minimum of seven elective tourism papers, which provide essential material required to understand the concepts of tourism as an industry and its position within New Zealand, both as an employer and a contributor to the economy of the country. Students also have a range of options to complement their knowledge of tourism by doing a selected major or a generic qualification of study.
Year 1
The papers studied in year one provide students with a comprehensive awareness of tourism as an industry, its role specifically within New Zealand, and also from a global perspective. The student should, during this year, either identify a major or a generic pathway of study that they perceive will enhance their individual learning and future employment opportunities.
Year 2
Papers in this year build on students’ core knowledge of tourism. Papers within their selected major augment and broaden their understanding and perception of tourism and its potential impact from an environmental, social, cultural and/or economic perspective through completion of business, social sciences, hospitality and environmental studies papers.
