When Pascal Languillon, originally from France, decided to study tourism at PhD level, he knew the only place for it was AUT and the NZ Tourism Research Institute (NZTRI).
His PhD explores the influence of green marketing on the buying behaviour of travellers. The research will provide tourism marketing managers with insights into how to improve marketing techniques in order to attract eco-conscious travellers.
NZTRI’s standing in the tourism community as a leader in innovative thinking and research was what attracted Pascal to AUT.
“NZTRI has now become one of the leading tourism research institutes in the world so I had no doubts that this was the right place for me,” he says.
“So far I’m really enjoying my experience at AUT, my supervisors are knowledgeable and friendly, the library is very good and there is a dynamic but relaxed vibe to the university. It’s definitely a great place to study.”
Pascal had been working as a sustainable tourism consultant and author for a few years, and realised that still little is known about the importance of sustainability as a motivator when it comes to booking a hotel or holiday.
“The results of my thesis will have implications for the industry as it will shed some light on the psychology of green motivation in tourism.”
He says he would definitely recommend AUT to others considering postgraduate study.
“I strongly feel that AUT, despite being a recent university, has now achieved world-class status. I don't think that I would have found better supervisors anywhere else in the world.”
