Learning about the business side of the hospitality industry was an added bonus says Fallyn Granville. “It made a difference that the lecturers had worked in the industry. It was a definite bonus because they could actually give us working examples,” she says.
Fallyn is a sales and marketing co-ordinator for the Hyatt Regency in Auckland. She says the internship programme also stood her in good stead.
“It really prepared me for the workforce and I think it was definitely an influential factor for my current employer when they were deciding who would be best suited to my current role. The great thing is I can work my way up in the company. It has hotels in the United States, Australia and Asia so I can broaden my horizons with travel overseas.”
