A Dream Project Now Within Reach
Carol Spence already had event management experience before enrolling with AUT, but says becoming qualified made all the difference when she applied for a job with the major events team at the Auckland City Council.
Carol worked on small events for a number of years and obtaining a qualification was the next logical step. “I had heard really good things about AUT and after researching on the internet I decided AUT was offering the papers I was most interested in, plus it allowed the flexibility I needed in terms of family commitments.”
Carol says her experience in the field was useful, but was not enough to achieve her long term goals. “A significant amount of what event coordinators and managers do is common sense, however that only carries you so far and then you need to have some background to call on.”
Now Carol has the opportunity to work on her dream project. “What I’m most proud of is my personal growth, stepping outside of my comfort zone and finally getting the opportunity to work on the 2011 Rugby World Cup.”
