Research graduates

AUT University graduates are working in diverse fields in New Zealand and internationally. Meet some of our graduates in Tourism and Hospitality here:


Vladimir Garkavenko

Vladimir Garkavenko
PhD

Vladimir received his Ph.D. from the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand and is now teaching at KIMEP in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Originally from the Ukraine, he joined KIMEP from the Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua, New Zealand. His research activity focuses on the analysis of the impact of information technology on the travel business. Vladimir is currently developing close links between NZTRI and KIMEP.

Anne received her MPhil from the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. She has continued to make a name for herself in the area of travel writing – contributing to the work of photographer Gary Ladd.

Ulrike Sassenberg
Master of Tourism Studies


Ulrike began working for the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute (NZTRI) housed within AUT which gave her the opportunity to write her thesis as part of a NZTRI tourism research innovation project. Her thesis was: The role of key stakeholders in sustainable tourism development: The case study of Nelson/ Marlborough/Golden Bay in New Zealand. Her thesis garnered external attention and she was invited to present it at a conference in Australia.

Master of International Hospitality Management

Renato's masters thesis evaluated the impact loyalty programmes have on the revenue management practices for an internationally-branded 4-star hotel in Auckland. Revenue management has increasingly become the backbone of hospitality businesses due to it being applicable in every market condition, he says. Find out more.
