What does a Paramedic do?

A paramedic is a dynamic pre-hospital health professional who clearly understands and applies the science of emergency medicine.

Paramedics are committed to the principle that all individuals have the fundamental right to access high quality rapid response pre-hospital emergency care and advanced life support. Paramedics work in frontline ambulance, aero medical retrieval and safety services roles.

Paramedics work in unpredictable, sometimes hostile environments in central and urban areas. This career is not suitable for everyone, but brings immense professional and personal satisfaction to the right people.

  • A strong caring personality that is able to cope with the challenges of dealing with trauma and illness
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to work in small teams
  • Fit for physical work and prepared for the rigors of long shifts
