What is Midwifery?
Midwifery is a health care profession which supports and cares for mothers and the birthing of their children. Midwives play an integral part in all stages of pregnancy and birth and provide:
- Prenatal care to expecting mothers
- The birthing of the baby
- Postpartum care to the mother and baby
- Family planning assistance and education

Career opportunities
Midwives work in the areas of pregnancy, childbirth and the first six weeks after childbirth. They can be employed in public hospital services, or set up practice as a self employed midwife in the community.
