Midwifery Undergraduate Courses

WHAT IS MIDWIFERY?

Midwifery is a health care profession which supports and cares for mothers and the birthing of their children. Midwives play an integral part in all stages of pregnancy and birth and provide:

  • Prenatal care to expecting mothers
  • The birthing of the baby
  • Postpartum care to the mother and baby
  • Family planning assistance and education

Midwives assist women to have a healthy pregnancy and natural birth experience.

AUT offers the following undergraduate programme:

Bachelor of Health Science (Midwifery)

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Midwives work in the areas of pregnancy, childbirth and the first four to six weeks after childbirth. They can be employed in public hospitals services, or set up practice as an independent midwife.
