FAQ

Q: Who can enrol in the Certificate programmes?

A: If English or Maori is your first language, then you are eligible to apply for these programmes.

If not, you are required to show evidence of an academic IELTS score of 5.5 overall achieved within the last two years.


Q: When do these programmes start and finish?

A: You can start the programmes in either March or July.

Students intending to exit from a Certificate programme in the middle of the year should note that only some of the health degree programmes have a mid-year intake.


Q: What can I do after the Certificate in Health Care Support or the Certificate in Health Studies?

A: Please note that some degrees have limited placements due to the degree having clinical placements as part of the programme criteria:

  • Bachelor of Health Science in Oral Health
  • Bachelor of Health Science in Paramedic
  • Bachelor of Health Science in Podiatry
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Physio)
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Midwifery)
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing)

Enrolment preference will be given on these degrees to those who have the highest grades.


Q: What grades do I need to get to apply for entry into a Health degree

A: Exiting into health degrees from the Certificate in Health Care Support:

  • If you obtain a B grade in the four papers you will be eligible to apply for enrolment in a health degree.
  • If English or Maori is not your first language you will also be required to meet the specific English language requirements of your chosen health degree.
Exiting into health degrees from the Certificate in Health Studies:
  • If you successfully complete eight papers you will be eligible to apply for enrolment in some of the health degrees.
  • You will be required to obtain a B grade in all papers to be eligible to apply for degrees in Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic.
  • For applicants who meet the above criteria there is no further English language testing required.
