This one year foundation programme prepares you for study at degree level in the School of Engineering.

Foundation graduates will have grounding in mathematics, engineering science and academic literacy skills in order to successfully undertake study at degree level. This programme will

  • Develop your knowledge and study skills to succeed at tertiary study.
  • Prepare you for university study and increases your academic confidence
  • Provide a pathway to bachelor’s degrees in Engineering
  • Expose you to the University environment

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • NCEA: 48 Level 2 credits plus 8 Level 1 credits in language rich subjects*
  • CIE: Total 60 points in UCAS
  • The course of study of every applicant is subject to the approval of the programme leader
*Language rich subjects include English, History, Geography, Classical Studies, History of Art or Media Studies, Economics, Te Reo, Physical Education, Drama, Social Studies.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Your application will normally be selected on the basis of your level of academic achievement but may require you to attend a selection interview. Preference will be given to those that have 12 Level 2 credits in mathematics and further Level 1 credits in language rich subjects (see above paragraph).

WHAT THIS QUALIFICATION COVERS

You will be introduced to concepts in all areas of physics and mathematics to a level which allows you, once completed successfully, to continue study in mechanical or electrical and electronic Engineering.

You will complete one paper in academic literacy to develop language and study skills, time management, communication and information literacy.
