The Mechanical Engineering major of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) is designed to prepare students for a role as an engineering technologist in any of two main areas – Mechanical Engineering and Production/Manufacturing Engineering. Engineering Technologists are responsible for providing, maintaining and applying or developing/designing different aspects of modern mechanical technology.
Students study a core set of papers in Year One, followed by a selection of papers in Years Two and Three.
WHAT THIS PROGRAMME COVERS
Year One
In Year One students improve their maths skills and establish key skills in engineering mechanics – statics and dynamics. Students also develop practical workshop skills, drawing and CAD skills, and an understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes and electrical fundamentals.
Papers include:
Year Two
The second year continues to develop maths skills and introduces fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Students choose between two specialties:
Year Three
In the final year students study four compulsory papers, two elective papers and embark on a year long Specialisation Project. The purpose of the project is to allow students to apply the knowledge gained in the first two years of study in a research or industrial environment.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
PAPERS
You will study eight papers in Years One and Two and seven papers in Year Three. The first year's papers are compulsory and your choice of papers in Years Two and Three will depend on the pathway you choose.
