

What if my degree is not from an English-speaking country?

What options are available for funding?
Some scholarships are available for postgraduate students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. Further information can be found at the Scholarships Office or by emailing your query to scholarships@aut.ac.nz. Unfortunately there are currently no scholarships offered to overseas students.
What mix of papers is recommended?
You will need to discuss this with your proposed supervisor and agree your course of study with him/her. Normally the course of study relates to the broad research areas of the student's proposed research topic.
Do I need a proposed research topic before I finalise my application?
Yes, your course of study, including your research project, must be approved by your supervisor and the Postgraduate Programme Leader before your application goes to the Postgraduate Examination Board.
What does it cost for an International student to study at postgraduate level?
International postgraduate fees are approximately $NZD25,900 for Masters and Postgraduate Diplomas; fees for Doctoral degrees will be negotiated on an individual basis. Please click here for more information on International Students.
Can I study part time?
Yes, all of our programmes are available for part time study. As an approximate guide, expect a workload of 20 hours (minimum) for a 30-point paper, so it should be noted that they are not suitable for combining with full-time employment.
Can I start part-way through the year?
Doctoral students and Postgraduate Diploma students can arrange to start their course of study at a time mutually agreed with their supervisor. Masters and Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) students must normally start at the beginning of the academic year.
