Marcel is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). He completed his PhD and MSc at Rhine-Westphalia Institute of Technology (RWTH) Aachen University in Germany. At RWTH Aachen University he worked as a lecturer and project manager and held the position as Deputy Head of the Department in thermal spraying. He managed and executed industry and publically funded research projects. These projects had a strong focus on relevant industries (eg. Ford, General Motors or Opel) and their applicable uses. For example, he worked on a redesign of a revolutionary coating system. This coating system—widely acknowledged by the global automotive industry—has been successfully introduced to the market.
