AUT BioDesign Lab researchers present at Auckland Bioengineering Institute (25/02/16)
Recently two of AUT’s new BioDesign Lab researchers were invited to give presentations at Auckland Universities Bio Institute’s annual symposium. This was the first time in recent time that students from AUT have been invited to present at this symposium.
PhD candidates, Hana Salati and Chris Whittington, had the opportunity to present and discuss their projects with other researchers from ABI and around New Zealand. Hana presented on the benefits and opportunities of non-contact 3-D scanning for health applications and Chris presented on the possible links between Nitric Oxide and the nasal cycle.
Considerable interest was received for both projects with very useful contacts made by both Hana and Chris and possible opportunities for future collaborative projects. Both must have impressed as we have already been invited back again next year.
Official opening of AUT’s new BioDesign Lab. (04/02/16)
The BioDesign Lab recently held a small opening to celebration moving into our newly renovated space at the top floor of the WD building. After a brief talk by Director Dr David White, outlining the current and future research directions of the BioDesign lab, the facility was officially opened by the head of school Professor Enrico Haemmerle who congratulated the members of the lab on their achievements and said that he was very excited and had high hopes for future research outcomes, cross faculty and external collaborations facilitated by the lab.
Projects already underway include collaborations both from within and beyond the DCT faculty, including the DHW Lab (based at Auckland hospital), Health and Sport Sciences, KEDRI, NISAN. The lab also has strong collaborations with external organisations such as the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) University of Auckland, University of Otago, district health boards and private medical companies.
