Master of Educational Leadership
Studying made easy at AUT
Dion Hettig is no stranger to universities and studying but says his time at AUT studying a Master of Educational Leadership was one of the best university stints he's done.
A Bachelor of Sport and Leisure and then a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching at two different universities set him up for AUT's Master of Educational Leadership where he opted for a course work based programme rather than a thesis.
"I'd been teaching for 4 years in a secondary school in Auckland but wanted to have that extra qualification. I'm moving overseas and felt this would enhance my qualifications," says Dion.
He worked full time while completing his masters and says what he learned during his study he could directly apply to the work he was doing while teaching.
"I've been to a few universities now and I don't think I could have completed a masters degree anywhere except AUT with the schedule I had. AUT basically made it doable for me. I was busy but always felt I could get the work done and was supported by the university."
From here, Dion moves to the US where he would like to continue his study and teaching as says he would definitely consider doing some more distance learning through AUT.
"I'd like to do my PhD and ultimately I'd like to work with Pacific Island youth in a tertiary role."
