Lia Nokes chose to study for her Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) at AUT because it provided a degree in early childhood education that was recognised by the Kindergarten Association.
She says the classes were structured in a way that made it easy for her to study around her young family. After completing her degree, Lia was offered her dream job as a teacher at Belmont/Bayswater Kindergarten in Auckland.
"This job is everything I dreamed it would be and more," she says. "I find working with the children stimulating, creative, challenging and fun. No two days are the same."
"I love the children; working with the parents; working in a small team; working within a big umbrella group of the Auckland Kindergarten Association and working with the community. It's very stimulating, enjoyable and rewarding."
