Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Computer Information Sciences (BA/BCIS)

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences conjoint programme of study is designed to prepare graduates with a sound technical understanding of computing and information technology, plus the ability to plan, develop and apply appropriate technologies and tools to framing and solving problems in a range of contexts. Graduates attain equal depth and strength of knowledge in both arts and information technology with a broad base of skills and knowledge and a variety of career options.

AUT encourages early application. There are limited places available. Late applications will be accepted if the programme is not full. Applicants will normally be selected on the basis of their level of academic achievement and may be required to attend a selection interview.

Entry requirements

Applicants must meet the conjoint programme of study’s admission requirements and the admission requirements for each of the component degrees, and an interview may be required

From school:

  • University Entrance, and:
    • NCEA: a minimum of 57 credits at Level 3 including a minimum of 19 credits at Level 3 in at least three approved subjects, which must include Mathematics with Calculus, or Statistics and Modelling, OR
    • CIE: 180 points on UCAS tariff

From previous tertiary education study:

  • A minimum of a B grade average over the previous 120 points worth of papers, or equivalent.

Note: Entrance to university does not guarantee admission to a specific programme of study.

Continued Enrolment in the Conjoint Programme

In order to maintain enrolment, conjoint programme students must achieve a minimum of a B grade average (equivalent to a GPA of 5 on the most commonly-used 9-point grading scales) over the previous 120 points worth of study, or else they will revert back to one of the component degrees.
