Can you imagine developing the next search algorithm for Google or creating mathematical theories that might help discover the secret of the universe? Skills in mathematical sciences are increasingly important, as more and more businesses and government departments want to better manage resources; whether it’s funds, staff, processes or materials.
The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (BMathSc) provides you with great opportunities to enhance your future employment prospects. You will develop the skills to analyse data and develop specialised computations or algorithms, turning numbers and figures into clear goals or projections. This is extremely valuable and graduates that can visualise data are highly sought after.
There are limited places available. AUT encourages early application.
Applicants will normally be selected on the basis of their level of academic achievement and may be required to attend a selection interview.
Preferred school subjects
Choosing a major is optional. If you wish to study a broad range of papers, you may complete these qualifications with no major.
The skills and knowledge that studying mathematical sciences provides are core to many disciplines and fields. This provides a variety of choices, including how your degree is named: Science or Mathematical Sciences.
The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences pathway offers students a more vocational degree culminating in an industry-focused research project in their final year.
You may choose a second major, either from the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences degree (called a double major) or from AUT's list of additional majors. Minors are also available in these subjects.
