

Just about every device or system we use or interact with is managed, facilitated or controlled by computers. Careers in computer and information sciences span a myriad of industries - you could work for a hospital or alongside engineers, or run your own company providing high-end network solutions to corporate clients.
The Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences (BCIS) gives you a technical understanding of computer hardware and software. You will learn to develop high quality computing solutions and gain an appreciation of computer and information sciences processes and practices.

Admission requirement
You will be guaranteed a place in this programme if you achieve an academic score of 120 along with the NCEA or CIE Maths requirements as listed above. If you achieve University Entrance and the additional Maths entry requirements but do not have the required academic score, you will be waitlisted according to your score. We will offer you a place if there are sufficient places available.
You may choose a second major, either from the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences (called a double major) or from additional majors outside the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences. Minors are also available in these subjects.
Year 1
You will be given an introduction to computer and information sciences before focusing on a chosen major in Years 2 and 3.
Year 2
You begin to specialise in your chosen major. You will acquire strong technical knowledge with creative problem solving skills; and the ability to analyse, design and maintain solutions to meet the needs of a wide range of IT clients and industries.
You will gain professional skills in programming and web development, IT infrastructure and networks, communication and teamwork, project management, ethics and professional practice, security, and information systems.
Year 3
You will complete papers in your major and deepen your knowledge and skills in these disciplines and in core areas such as project management. You will also carry out a research and development project in your specialist area for a client.
