Information Systems Science major: Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences

Interested in the theory and science behind the management and use of information, including foundations of information science, information modelling, data mining, knowledge engineering and database design?

The Information Systems Science major in the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences degree (BCIS) develops the skills needed for the acquisition, representation and processing of knowledge-based solutions. Graduates majoring in Information Systems Science find employment as database administrators, information analysts, data mining specialists and data analysts.
  • Develops your ability to devise effective and efficient solutions for information processing, generation and delivery
  • Papers cover information systems and their application in particular domains, technical aspects of database and programming for information retrieval and presentation
  • Includes a research and development project involving an industry or research centre client
  • A chance to work on a wide range of exciting computing projects with companies like Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Eagle Technology and FutureTech in Year 3, supervised by AUT staff

Structure

Most papers last one semester and are worth 15 points. You must complete 120 points each year (360 points for the entire degree). In each year you will study core (compulsory) papers, and select other papers from a range of options.
