Inspirations
Jiling Cao
Jiling is an Associate Professor covering many areas of Mathematics. He lectured in most of my courses at AUT and supervised my undergrad research. We share a common passion for quantitative finance. I've found his mathematical ingenuity and ability to balance between theory and practice exceptionally inspiring.
Peter Sumich
Peter is the Finance & Planning Manager of the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies at AUT. I worked as Peter's intern in the summer of 2010. We've done work around vineyard micro-climate management and reviewed the viability of university research projects. My experience with Peter helped me realize some really cool, economic applications utilizing Game Theory. There's never a dull moment with Peter, it was fun.

As General Manager at TRV Trading, Travis is my current boss. I like Travis for his down-to-earth attitude and inhuman aptitude. Having been a successful floor trader on various US, Asian exchanges, Travis is the kind of person I've always wanted to become.
James Simons
I've never met James Simons but have read a lot of literature about him since I joined this industry years ago. He runs a firm called Renaissance Technologies and he manages over 6 billion dollars, and everything he does is based on Mathematics. He is very involved in Mathematics society of America as well. His success as a mathematician and hedge fund manager was probably how I ended up doing Mathematical Sciences at AUT.
