AUT Computing and Mathematical Sciences Graduates

Stefan Schliebs - Graduate of the School of Computing and Mathematical SciencesDr Stefan Schliebs – Postdoctoral Research Fellow
PhD – Computer Science

“A university with internationally acclaimed professors who push students to perform on a global level,” is how Dr Stefan Schliebs describes AUT University.

“My primary supervisor, Professor Nikola Kasabov, is a highly established expert in the field of computational intelligence. His guidance, support and level of knowledge throughout my PhD was invaluable.

“It is very important to choose a supervisor who will encourage this level of performance, as PhD graduates will not only be competing with each other in New Zealand, but with graduates from all over the world.”

Stefan also praises the importance placed on sending PhD students to international conferences. “The PHD funding for attendance was extremely important and helpful for a successful graduation. Being exposed to an international community is essential for a successful research career.”

Stefan now works as a postdoctoral research fellow at KEDRI at AUT University – a job he describes as challenging, while offering lots of academic freedom and space to develop.

“My PhD degree was my entry ticket into the academic world. If one has ambitions to stay in the research field, a PhD is essential.”
