Abstract
Software engineering standards are developed through ISO and with affiliated organisations. The International IT Governance Standard completed in December 2007 is an example of a fast-track standard development that has raised a difficult set of problems for the standards body.

In this presentation the processes for standards development will be discussed, the content of the new standard outlined, and the management of problem areas for standards development and implementation elaborated. The issues of harmonisation, adoption and cost will also be addressed.
