Digital Media Major: Bachelor of Communication Studies

Digital media covers visual communication, animation, moving image, digital video, digital visual effects, web and interactive media production, interface design and learning communication. A rapidly growing industry, digital media is about telling stories and communicating via the digital platform.

The Digital Media major in the Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) helps you understand the bigger picture of media trends and technological developments. You are able to recognise new creative markets as they emerge, learn to manage teams and design new workflows.

  • Operate at the interface of media communication technology - learning how to make work look great, sound great and tell a great story
  • Deliver your work via mobile devices, broadcast media or broadband communication (most likely, all of the above) from the smallest to the largest screens, on time and on budget
  • From 2013, you will have the opportunity to work together with students from other majors in the new media centre, a collaborative media studio in AUT's new WG learning precinct
  • Access to latest digital field equipment, motion and chroma key studio, edit suites and digital media computer labs
  • Graduates have found work with TVNZ, Mediaworks, Flux Media, Weta, bka interactive, Shift, Media Interactive, Eyeworks, Arcade and other media companies
