A message from Alan Cocker, Head of School, Communication Studies

Welcome to AUT University and the opportunity to study towards a career in the growing world of communications and media.

Print, broadcast and new media shape and reflect our perceptions and reactions to the world. They are central to our lives as citizens and we make decisions on everything from purchases to policy based on the messages we receive.

AUT’s graduates help create those messages. As producers, journalists, creative advertising professionals and communication managers, AUT communications graduates help decide the media’s look, sound, feel and flavour.

These are exciting and demanding careers. They are constantly changing as we shape communication for the demands of today and tomorrow. It is a changing world and in challenging global economic times the communication industries will be at the forefront of how we respond, adjust our thinking and determine new policy approaches.

Facilities and Services:

Our qualifications throw students into real working situations, and this philosophy extends to our facilities which include: a television studio; radio workstations and production room; an FM radio station; digital media laboratories; newsrooms; computer laboratories; specialist workspaces and studios. The demand for graduates is high because the standard is high. The rewards are high too if you are equipped with the necessary skills and engage critically and analytically with the world of contemporary communications.
