Averill Gordon lectures on the postgraudate and undergraduate communications degree, specialising in public relations. Originally from New Zealand, Averill spent most of her professional life overseas, primarily in the UK. Originally a public relations practitioner, Averill set up the London healthcare division of Weber Shandwick, one of world's the largest PR agencies, where she directed global PR accounts. She then moved to the Cotswolds where she created and ran the public relations degree at the University of Gloucestershire. Averill then became Director of Studies, overseeing the academic rigour of the communications degrees.
Averill is also the Global Team Mentor and board member of GlobCom BV, which runs an annual competition among 11 universities where public relations students, working in multicultural global virtual teams, develop an international public relations solution to a live company brief. In 2011 Averill wrote the textbook 'Public Relations' published by Oxford University Press which links theory to practice. Averill's research covers leadership patterns in global virtual teams and she is also exploring the value of digital media technologies in learning.
