Research into Communication: Theory, method, and practice

In this one-day conference, we will question and discuss the notion that all communication is multimodal.  With our conference theme Research into Communication: Theory, method, and practice, we hope to bring together scholars from all areas of Communication Studies, Health and Business Communication, Discourse Analysis, Education, Tourism, and other areas where researchers or research students focus on any aspect of communication.

We welcome quantitative and qualitative approaches as well as mixed method approaches and hope for a lively discussion on the multimodal aspect of research into communication.

The conference will be held at AUT University on 2nd December 2011.

Sigrid Norris (AUT) will open the conference with the plenary Multimodality? Then, Rodney H. Jones (City University Hong Kong) will give his plenary Multimodality in discourses of health and risk. After these two plenaries, attendants will split into several concurrent sessions; and will come together at the end of the day for a discussion of the highlights of the conference.  At this time, three best student papers at Honours, Masters, and PhD level will be announced and monetary prizes will be awarded.
