Media, Democracy and the Public Sphere

In broad terms, the public sphere can be defined as a space which facilitates the freedoms of speech, publication and assembly. Manifestation of these freedoms occurs independently of religious prerogatives, arbitrary state rule and private commercial interest. Public sphere ideals allow us to critically evaluate media-communication policies and public relations strategies alongside the performance of media institutions.
