What do I study?

A number of business-related papers IN ENGLISH. These are set by the partner business school. Sometimes you are able to choose papers (as you do at AUT). You are required to study the language and culture of the country if it is a non-English speaking environment.

What is the "full-time for full-time" formula?

You are required to study a full-time load (of whatever length and structure) as set by the partner business school for its own domestic students. This then equates to a full-time load of study at AUT (ie 60 credit points per semester). If you pass this full-time study load overseas, your Bachelor of Business degree is credited with 60 credit points per semester of study.

These credits are either specified (ie they relate to the requirements of a major) or unspecified (ie they relate to the elective part of your degree).

What do I get for this study?

  1. A transcript from an international business school
  2. An impressive international entry on your CV
  3. A formal certification from some business schools
  4. Cross-credits to your Bachelor of Business degree
  5. A unique experience that will fashion your future professional and personal life

How much does it cost?

Between NZ$8,000 - NZ$12,000 per semester. You are responsible for all costs related to travelling and living overseas. You can work out your own budget: 1. airfare + 2. full insurance + 3. NZ rent and utilities costs (phone, electricity, gas etc) PLUS 20% as a buffer + 4. your own allowance for local travel and entertainment + 5. daily living costs (meals, groceries etc). This estimate does NOT include enrolment costs at AUT.

Is there a scholarship I can apply for?

A scholarship of $5,000 is available to assist 5 eligible Bachelor of Business students per semester with exchange costs. See the scholarships page for details.

Where do I enrol?

At AUT. You remain a domestic student. You are therefore able to receive allowances and loans as a domestic student if you are entitled to these.

What about visas?

We assist you through this procedure. For some countries it is lengthy, and for others it is a simple process. You must of course have a current passport and it should be valid beyond the time you expect to be away.

Who helps with things like accommodation?

Each partner business school has a system to help you with this. Most students in Europe and Asia live in apartments. On campus student accommodation is common in USA and Canada.

Am I on my own overseas?

ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO BE! There will be students to mix/live with from the country you are living in and from other overseas partners. You can take up sport/artistic/community activities and interact with local people this way. There is always a specific staff member appointed at our partner business school to take charge of exchange arrangements and student welfare as part of our agreement.

Can I stay on and do Co-op while I am overseas?

Yes, most certainly. You can do co-op in any country in the world. You find a position (with facilitation from us), we approve it (as we do with any NZ-based placement), you undertake co-op.

Remember that you must have done at least TWO Level 7 papers in your major BEFORE you are eligible to undertake co-op.
