Biography:

Katherine joined AUT as a lecturer in 2012 and has recently completed her doctorate. Her doctoral research investigates the relationship between employee participation, wellbeing and productivity in residential aged care in New Zealand.

Prior to commencing doctoral studies, Katherine completed research examining employee and managerial perceptions of family-friendly policy in a local government organisation.

Katherine moved into doctoral study after 10 years’ experience in the tertiary sector, as a tutor and allied staff member. During this time she was also an active union delegate, studied employment relations part-time and raised two children, now aged 8 and 5.  Katherine’s experience as a woman and mother at work, and as a union delegate strongly informs her research interests.  Katherine has also worked in a variety of jobs such as English teaching in Japan, aged care, call centres and factories before returning to the tertiary sector.
