
Finance is about the valuation of assets and all the factors that affect this valuation. More specifically, finance is concerned with the pricing, price formation process, and performance of stocks, bonds, and other financial products; the investment decisions of firms and individuals; and the operation of financial markets around the world.
The Finance group at AUT's Business School currently consists of 12 research-active staff (2 full professors, 3 associate professors and 7 senior lecturers). The department of Finance is one of the leading departments in New Zealand, ranked number one in the Auckland region and number two in the country based on the quality of its research in the latest round of Performance Based Research Fund conducted by New Zealand's Tertiary Education Commission in 2006. Research is currently being conducted on all aspects of finance such as corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, and investments. In particular, our research emphasis is applied and focuses on corporate finance, corporate governance, financial institutions, fund management, market microstructure, and international finance. We actively pursue research collaboration both nationally and internationally and produce research outputs which are presented at major conferences and published in leading journals. Additionally, our group hosts research workshops, seminars and frequently invites visiting research fellows.
AUT is renowned for its excellence in teaching. In Finance, we offer a range of mainstream finance papers catering to both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
