Biography:

Dr Andy Godfrey joined AUT in June 2004 as Associate Dean - Postgraduate Students, a new role created to ensure that postgraduate students in the Faculty of Business are supported effectively in their masters and doctoral programmes. Dr Godfrey started his career in the UK in corporate banking, following which he worked in tertiary institutes in England, Fiji and New Zealand.

He has had significant involvement in managing postgraduate business education, including the Waikato University Executive MBA programme at Manukau Business School and, from 1998 to 2004, as Director of the International MBA at Manukau Business School. This programme was extremely successful, growing from an initial enrolment of 12 students to a total of 150 students, making it one of the largest MBA programmes in New Zealand. The role also involved close liaison with the Graduate College of Management (GCM) at Southern Cross University, Australia, and Dr Godfrey was appointed as an Adjunct Professor by the GCM in 2001. Dr Godfrey was also closely involved with the research activities of the students and of the GCM. He regularly attended and contributed to the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Research Workshops conducted by the GCM for their doctoral students and was an examiner for the DBA thesis element and a DBA co-supervisor. This was the largest such programme in Australia, with 200 students enrolled.

Dr Godfrey has contributed over 50 papers to international publications and conferences, with a particular emphasis upon research policy links with practioners. Work on international accounting issues for airlines was undertaken in conjunction with IAATA and airline financial analysts, brand valuation consultancy was undertaken with marketing and finance managers in New Zealand and investor relations consultancy has been undertaken with the New Zealand financial community, including analysts, journalists, IR managers and PR practioners.

Dr Godfrey has also maintained close links with the professions and the academic community. He was a member of the Academic Board of Advanced Business Education Limited, which has responsibility for the Postgraduate Professional Accounting Schools and Professional Competency Examination Two on behalf of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has also been a member of the Education Committee of the NZ Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, of which he has been Chair since 2002.
