Bachelor of Business - Advertising

This is the only undergraduate business degree in New Zealand that provides a major in Advertising. By studying the theory and practice of advertising you will develop the skills needed for a career in this fast paced industry. 

Bachelor of Business: degree outline

Overview 

The degree is supported and endorsed by the advertising industry, which plays an active part in deciding its content. The industry demands graduates who can find new and creative ways to get the message across to a media savvy 21st century audience.

This major will provide you with an understanding of the role advertising plays in the marketing mix. You will:

  • measuring advertising effectiveness
  • evaluate advertising campaigns
  • learn how to develop media plans
  • examine current issues in the industry
  • develop strategies around obtaining client accounts

What this major covers

Year 1

You will learn about ‘doing business’ and will gain an understanding of core business disciplines and how they interact and impact on each other. Disciplines covered include: accounting; marketing; finance; economics;
management; law; and social science.

Year 2

You will take papers from your major area(s) of study.

Year 3

The final year combines completion of academic study with applying it to actual business situations. You will complete a three month work placement for an organisation of your choice.

This provides invaluable business experience, allowing you to put theory into practice and will prepare you for a smooth transition into employment after you graduate.
