Business Postgraduate Study

Marketing

Marketing provides the customer focus that companies and institutions require to keep abreast of their rapidly changing markets. Students studying marketing gain an understanding of marketing theory and its relationship to good business practice. Consumer and business to business markets, profit and not-for-profit, high and low technology and domestic and international marketing all come within our sphere of interest and expertise.

RESEARCH

Research is fundamental to studying marketing at postgraduate level. The Marketing department at AUT is rapidly expanding – we now boast a very strong core of research-active and well-published academics. This research activity allows us to maintain a research-led teaching method, where our teachers weave into their classes not only the seminal research but also the current research they are undertaking.

Alongside this drive to bring students to the cutting edge of current theoretical advances is the determination to link students to the real issues facing industry. We are aware that the ultimate objective of developing marketing theory is to make marketing practitioners more profitable and socially responsible. The Marketing department hosts a regular research seminar series.

Examples of student research include:

  • Understanding Value in B2B Buyer-Seller Relationships: Do Matching Expectations Improve Relationship Strength?
  • Drivers of Brand Loyalty
  • The Assessment of Relationship Value in Service Industries

Postgraduate papers include:

  • Advanced Buyer Behaviour
  • Challenges in International Marketing Management
  • Contemporary Issues in Retailing
  • Contemporary Marketing Issues
  • Contemporary Theories and Models of Personal Selling
  • Theory and Practice in Brand Management
