Business Information Systems

Business Information Systems at AUT’s Business School is focused on understanding the central role that various information and communication technologies play in integrating contemporary organisations and adding value through electronic business. Papers cover topics in information systems strategy and governance; managing information in the digital enterprise; electronic commerce strategies and applications; and ICT in a changing world.

RESEARCH

Academic staff working in the area of Business Information Systems conduct research in a number of areas, including electronic collaboration, virtual communities, e-government, information technology adoption, e-business strategies, information systems implementation, information systems strategy/governance and online work systems. Our research is presented at international conferences and is published in edited books and international journals, such as the MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Information & Management, Electronic Markets, Organization Studies, International Journal of Production Research, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Information Technology for Development as well as in IEEE Transactions for Engineering Management, IEEE Transactions for Professional Communications, Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing, Information Technology & People and Human IT.

  • Consumer empowerment and user-generated content in Web 2.0
  • E-government initiatives and citizens’ expectations
  • ICT-based collaborative networks in the health sector
  • Passive knowledge sharing: withholding knowledge in online communities
  • Mentoring as an element of successful IT project management practice

The Business School has a large number of professorial staff, including leading scholars who are recognised internationally and nationally. Our academic staff are enthusiastic researchers and teachers with backgrounds in academia and professional practice and our courses have an emphasis on ‘real’ research that is relevant to the business community.
