Teaching and Learning Environment

Business School BuildingLearning Environment

When we designed our new building to house 6000 of tomorrow's business leaders we focussed on the end result - the graduates. AUT has a purpose built, world class business school situated in the heart of Auckland City.

Business School design
To get our students ready for the challenges of the business world we wanted a learning environment that best prepared them for it. Our students sit facing each other around meeting room style tables, enabling problem solving and discussion with other students.

Business is also about innovation. So we included state of the art facilities, such as wireless online access, data capability, DVD players, surround sound audio systems, which are accessible through student and lecturer laptops.

The building also has its own café and spaces throughout for students to meet.

Business School Philosophy

Small group learningThe Business School 's philosophy is based on student-centered learning and focuses on engaging our students with academic staff and their peers.

Students are challenged to ask questions, explain their ideas to others and work co-operatively to frame and solve problems. Students develop understanding and confidence by reflecting on what they have learned, evaluating it and linking it to their previous learning and experience.

There is a high level of interaction with teachers and other students. Small group learning enables teachers to model critical thinking and approaches to framing and solving problems in their discipline or professional field.

The interaction with students enables teachers to provide regular feedback to assist students as they develop their knowledge and capabilities through their study.
